TiL AI in TVET Workshop in Nigeria.
The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) @COL4D, in partnership with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), recently hosted a groundbreaking two-day Trainer-in-the-Loop Artificial Intelligence (TiL AI) Workshop at the Centre of Excellence in Kaduna.
Held from 19-20 June 2025, this event marked a significant milestone in Nigeriaβs journey to enhance blended learning in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by integrating AI into the creation of Open Educational Resources (OER) for Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) using national curriculum for the higher national diploma programme.
During his opening remarks, NBTE Executive Secretary Professor Idris M. Bugaje emphasised, βNBTE will expand this initiative by developing more resources in other emerging fields using COLβs innovative approach. Our collaboration with COL sets a new benchmark for meaningful and impactful partnerships.β
Mr Robert Okinda, COLβs Adviser: Skills, stated that this project introduces an innovative approach to producing high-quality OER using AI for blended TVET. The initiative is also being implemented in select TVET institutions across Commonwealth countries, including Ghana, Jamaica, Kenya and Nigeria.
