We’re excited to attend the India-AI Impact Summit 2026 later this month.
With distinct expertise in Open and Distance Learning and Technology-Enabled Learning, COL believes that AI can expand educational access, support teachers, and reach learners at scale, particularly in underserved communities.
Following the Summit’s Primary Chakra: Human Capital, Frugal AI can be a “Teacher’s Ally” in open learning. We can’t wait to exchange ideas and create new connections with global experts in our session on teacher-led, localised and Frugal AI for equitable education in the Commonwealth. More to come!

“The big elephant in the room at the moment, of course, is AI.”
In conversation with the University of Delhi's Campus of Open Learning Radio (COL Radio) at the International Conference on Emerging Trends and Challenges in Open, Distance, Digital, and Blended Learning (ODDBL ‘26), Dr Tony Mays, Director: Education at COL, reflects on how open and distance learning has always adapted to technological change.
From broadcasting and YouTube to LMSs and MOOCs, each shift brought positive disruption, and educators took what worked to enrich programmes and widen access. AI, he says, is simply the next step. The focus now is on identifying “the best uses for us” and where AI can genuinely add value to learning.
