Capacity Building for Digital Education through ODDL – The Way Forward
On his visit to Hyderabad, Professor Peter Scott, President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), participated in a Roundtable hosted by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU).
Bringing together Vice Chancellors and academic leaders from Telangana State Universities, the discussion focused on how advances in digital technologies are transforming pedagogy, learner engagement, and institutional collaboration.
The dialogue emphasized the importance of building digital competencies among educators to strengthen Open and Distance Digital Learning (ODDL), aligning with NEP 2020, SDG 4, and the Digital India Mission.

The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Integrated Digital Education Academy (iDEA): a state-level centre designed to scale Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) and responsible AI in higher education.
The MoU was signed by Professor Peter Scott, President & CEO of COL, and Professor Ghanta Chakrapani, Vice Chancellor of BRAOU, in the presence of:
- Hon. Chief Minister of Telangana, Shri A. Revanth Reddy
- Dr. K. Keshava Rao, Special Advisor, Government of Telangana
Following the signing, Prof. Scott delivered a keynote address on the importance of collaboration, digital systems, and capacity building in advancing India’s NEP 2020, NDEAR, and Academic Bank of Credits, ensuring education systems remain inclusive, innovative, and future-ready.
