Happy 58th Independence Day, Nauru!
In Nauru, COL works with the Nauru Department of Education and The University of the South Pacific - Nauru Campus to strengthen gender-responsive ODL policies, enhance ODL systems, and drive access to quality learning, especially in skills for work and across tertiary education.
Over the past five years, COL has worked with its local partners to train 33 teachers on providing effective learning support in ODL contexts; hosted an ODL workshop for Ministry officials; developed online learning resources for teachers, including an ODL course catalogue, a National OER Collection Site, and an Online TVET Toolkit; and built the capacity of TVET practitioners.
Nauru is also a member of the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth (VUSSC) network and benefits from COL’s Pacific Partnership for Open, Distance, and Flexible Learning (PACFOLD), an ongoing project funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). The PACFOLD project has made significant strides in developing teacher capacity, providing skills training for youth, building the capacities of ministry officials in ODL, and improving data resilience in ministries of education.
We look forward to continuing our collaboration with local partners to make open education more equitable and accessible for everyone in Nauru!
