Happy 36th Independe

Happy 36th Independence Day, Namibia!

Namibia is part of COL’s Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth (VUSSC) network and benefits from programmes delivered by COL’s regional centre in South Africa, the SADC Centre for Distance Education. We work with government ministries, education authorities and education institutions to support open schooling, higher education, and skills development for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Over the last five years, with COL’s expertise, Namibia has:
- Developed a strategy to digitise learning resources, with a focus on climate-responsive sustainable livelihoods and food security
- Strengthened open education capacity at three education institutions
- Provided gender equity training to more than 3,900 women and girls
- Trained 300 community members in practical livelihood skills such as horticulture, poultry production, tailoring, and entrepreneurship

Earlier this year, the Honourable Sanet L. Steenkamp, Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, joined COL’s Board of Governors as a Regional Representative for Africa. We are honoured to benefit from her leadership and expertise as we continue working together to make education more inclusive, equitable, and accessible for all Namibians.
