#COL4D continues to deepen its partnership with Tonga! During a recent visit to the Ministry of Education and Training, COLs Education Specialist for Teacher Education, Dr Betty Ogange, met with CEO Mr Isikeli N Oko to discuss the upcoming OER for STEM Education workshop, hosted from 30 September – 2 October 2024, at the University of the South Pacific (USP) @UniSouthPacific Tonga Campus. Mr Oko expressed appreciation for COL’s ongoing support, calling the workshop a timely initiative that will empower teachers to integrate technology effectively into the classroom.

Dr Ogange, together with Dr Rajni Chand, Director of PACFOLD, COL’s Pacific Regional Centre hosted by USP, also visited Tonga National University (TNU) to discuss capacity-building projects in Open and Distance Learning. TNU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Manu Akauola, thanked COL for its sustained efforts to meet the evolving needs of this new institution. In further discussions with Dr Sela Teisina and senior staff at TNU’s Faculty of Education, Arts, and Humanities, COL explored capacity-building needs in online teacher training. Through these collaborations, COL is proud to support Tonga’s vision for quality education under the Faiako Ma’a Tonga initiative

COL’s Focal Point in Tonga, Dr Raelyn Esau, expertly coordinated these meetings, identifying priority areas for further collaboration. Her leadership underscores the close and growing partnership between COL, the Ministry of Education in Tonga, and USP’s PACFOLD as we work together to strengthen education and lifelong learning in Tonga.
