Since 2011, #COL4D and Botswana Open University (BOU), along with its predecessor, the Botswana College of Distance and Open Learning (BOCODOL), have enjoyed a special relationship. The trajectory followed by BOU and BOCODOL over the last two decades demonstrates the special value of the type of long-term, multifaceted relationship that has been a feature of COL’s work in open and distance learning in the region.
The Special and Inclusive degree programme at BOU, offered for the first time by distance in 2017, was developed with COL’s assistance. This support made special education #OER content available and strengthened the capacity of #TeacherEducation staff to design, develop, and facilitate special education courses online.
With COL’s support, in 2019, BOU developed a Strategy for Technology-Enhanced Learning #TEL. Another context in which COL and BOU have collaborated is with the Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth #VUSSC.
BOU hosts COL’s regional centre for the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Called SADC-Centre for Distance Education, it serves as a leader in capacity-building activities in #ODL.
Today, COL provides extensive support for materials development processes to long-standing partners like BOU and new partners at the institutional and ministerial levels.
COL President and CEO, Professor Peter Scott, is currently on a three-day visit to #Botswana to attend multiple events organised by COL and its partners. More to follow.
