The Pacific Centre for Flexible and Open Learning for Development (PACFOLD) is #COL4D’s regional centre and is hosted by the University of the South Pacific (USP) @UniSouthPacific, with the goal of promoting the adoption and application of open, flexible and distance learning (ODFL) methods and technologies to the challenges that confront the people of the Commonwealth Pacific Islands community.
Since 2020, PACFOLD, in collaboration with COL, has been implementing the ODFL project ‘Partnership for Open, Distance and Flexible Learning in the Pacific’ funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) @MFATNZ to support the enhancement of the capacity and efficiency of education sectors in the Pacific.
Partnership for ODFL in the Pacific is a five-year project designed to enhance the resiliency, efficiency and capacity of education sectors in the Pacific through the greater use of innovative delivery mechanisms and technology.

SPARC team had the privilege of visiting Husri Village, Hyderabad, today where we engaged with women eager to learn and grow. During our meeting with the local community, we discussed exciting training opportunities in poultry & livestock, kitchen gardening, and cultivating organic vegetables.
The women proudly showcased their work and shared their experiences. We also provided invaluable insights from other communities and successful businesses, inspiring the women to take the next step. Together, we explored opportunities to establish linkages with markets and online businesses, ensuring a sustainable future for their ventures. 🌱

Recently, at the 6th Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED 6) in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr B Shadrach, Director of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) @COL4D’s regional centre, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) @CEMCA_COL participated in a discussion on AI where he highlighted CEMCA’s efforts in advancing AI literacy. These initiatives are:
• AI Literacy for Informal Sector Workers – conducted in collaboration with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI)
• AI Literacy Among Teachers – in partnership with MIT-RAISE
• COL’s Teachers in the Loop AI project – piloted among in-service teachers.
These initiatives aim to build AI capacity in education and foster responsible use of AI technologies. The APMED 6 meeting, organised by UNESCO’s Regional Office in Bangkok @unescobangkok, reviewed progress since the 2022 Bangkok Statement and discussed innovative approaches for making education more relevant, inclusive, and sustainable. The focus on AI literacy aligns with CEMCA's strategic goals to promote equitable and lifelong learning opportunities across the region.
