Capacity Building in Tonga for Disability Practitioners.
We're thrilled to share the inspiring progress in #Tonga as disability practitioners undergo a transformative capacity-building initiative. #COL4D is proud to support this significant endeavour, which aims to enhance the skills and expertise of disability practitioners across the nation.
In collaboration with key stakeholders and local partners, COL has facilitated a comprehensive program designed to empower disability practitioners with the knowledge, tools, and strategies necessary to address the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities in Tonga.
Through a series of tailored workshops, training sessions, and hands-on learning experiences, disability practitioners are gaining invaluable insights into best practices, inclusive approaches, and innovative solutions for supporting individuals with disabilities.
From inclusive education to assistive technologies, the program covers a wide range of topics essential for creating more accessible and inclusive communities. By equipping practitioners with the necessary skills and resources, we're not only enhancing the quality of support services but also fostering greater inclusivity and empowerment for individuals with disabilities in Tonga.
This initiative underscores our commitment to promoting inclusive education and ensuring equal opportunities for all. By investing in the capacity-building of disability practitioners, COL and its partners throughout the Commonwealth are paving the way for a more inclusive society where every individual, regardless of ability, can participate fully and contribute meaningfully.
Together with our partners and stakeholders, we're making strides towards a more inclusive and equitable future for Tonga. Join us in celebrating the dedication and achievements of disability practitioners as they continue to make a positive impact in their communities.

Building Resilient Education Systems in the Pacific through Innovative AI Integration.
In our interconnected world, the resilience of education systems is more crucial than ever, especially for the vibrant communities of the Pacific Island Countries. The innovative use of artificial intelligence #AI in education, as seen in the partnerships between #COL4D, the University of the South Pacific (USP), and the National University of Samoa (NUS), highlights how technology can significantly enhance educational access and effectiveness.
The Semester Zero programme at USP is a prime example of how AI can bridge the educational divide. This programme has been transformed by integrating advanced AI, allowing over 2,500 students to engage with the digital resources of USP seamlessly, thus making learning more accessible from the comfort of their homes. An overwhelming proportion of students rated the AI-infused support highly.
The successful pilot at NUS involving a GPT-powered Moodle help desk illustrates the potential of AI to provide timely support to learners, enhancing their experience and supporting faculty and staff by reducing workload and improving response times.
These initiatives are not just about technology implementation; they represent a commitment to empowering students and educators in Samoa, Fiji, and across the Pacific with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world. This commitment is crucial for building resilient educational systems that can adapt and thrive in the face of challenges. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, New Zealand, supports COL and partners in this effort.
