COL’s Empowering Women and Girls (EWG) project supports pathways back to education for women and girls who have had to drop out. On this International Day of Education, EWG spotlights a community partner’s Back-to-School campaign to demonstrate the power of collaboration in making education more accessible to all.
#InternationalDayofEducation #EmpowerYouth #empoweringwomen COL4D's Empowering Women & GirlsToday, we celebrate International Day of Education. This year’s theme, “The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education,” reminds us that meaningful change happens when education is shaped with learners, families, and communities.
Education is not only a fundamental right; it is a powerful force that transforms lives and communities. Through our Empowering Women and Girls Project, we support pathways back to education for women and girls who may have had to drop out, while creating space for women, girls, and communities to help shape that journey.
In Sri Lanka, our community partner, the Women’s Development Centre, has launched a Back-to-School Mobilisation Campaign. Working alongside parents, educators, and community leaders, the campaign:
• Raises awareness on the importance of education
• Creates safe spaces for women and girls to identify if they have dropped out or are at risk
• Connects learners to back-to-school services, referrals, and support
• Shares information on alternative learning pathways, including vocational training
• Addresses barriers such as poverty, safety concerns, harmful gender norms, and school-related gender-based violence
• Strengthens a shared sense of community responsibility to protect every child’s right to education
This campaign is just one example of how community-led engagement can help make education a place where everyone can succeed. On this International Day of Education, we celebrate the power of collaboration and education built together.
