COL hosts ODFL workshop in Zambia.

#COL4D  recently hosted a workshop on quality assurance and standards of open distance and flexible learning (ODFL) in Lusaka, #Zambia. Officials from the Ministry of Technology and Science (MoTS) and the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) attended the workshop.

Dr Brilliant Habeenzu, the Permanent Secretary of MoTS, emphasised the importance of ensuring quality and standards of skills training for workforce employability amidst climate change challenges, particularly in the agriculture, mining, tourism and manufacturing sectors.

Mr Cleophas Takaiza, Director General of TEVETA, said he greatly appreciated the support from COL and reiterated TEVETA’s commitment to developing a framework to ensure the quality of training implemented using blended approaches.

Mr Robert Okinda, COL’s Adviser: Skills detailed COL’s strategy for building the resilience of #TEVET systems through the development or review of national policies, strategies, standards, and guidelines for implementing competency-based blended TEVET.

COL continues to support the development of Zambia’s ODFL plan, which was launched in December 2023.

#COL4D recently hosted a workshop on quality assurance and standards of open distance and flexible learning (ODFL) in Lusaka, #Zambia. Ms Yolanda Gongora, Chief Education Officer, Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Belize, met with Professor Peter Scott, @peter_scott, President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), at the 22nd Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers in London. This meeting underscores COL and Belize’s partnership in two sectors – Education and Skills – with Gender Equality and Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) as cross-cutting initiatives.

The conference, taking place from 16-17 May 2024, is centred around the theme Driving Resilience, Equity, and Skills for an Inclusive Future.

The Honourable Ms Erica Stanford, Minister of Education, New Zealand, met with Professor Peter Scott, President and CEO of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), at the 22nd Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers in London. The Honourable Minister was joined by Senior Ministerial Advisor Emma Chatterton and Ministry of Education Official Giles Panting. 

This meeting highlights the strong ties between COL and New Zealand, whose invaluable support empowers officials, teachers, youth, and persons with disabilities in the Pacific through flexible, open, and distance learning while also bolstering COLs Pan-Commonwealth programmes.
