Building brighter futures in Kiribati and Papua New Guinea.
@COL4D’s Pacific Partnership for Open, Distance, and Flexible Learning is a partnership for open, distance and flexible learning #ODFL in the Pacific is a project funded by the New Zealand Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) @MFATNZ to support education sectors in the Pacific through greater use of innovation and technology – implemented by COL and the Pacific Centre for Flexible and Open Learning for Development #PACFOLD – hosted and managed by the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
COL and MFAT support vocational training initiatives with the Ministry of Women, Youth, Sport, and Social Affairs in Kiribati. Last year's achievements included training 147 youth, including women and persons with disabilities (PWD), and teaching skills such as sewing, computing, cookery, English, and domestic wiring. In early 2025, six new courses, including welding and auto maintenance, will be introduced, enhancing opportunities for career growth.
COL and MFAT are also partnering through the Pacific Partnership for ODFL to build capacity and empower the youth of Papua New Guinea for a brighter future through vocational training programmes.
Highlights from 2024 include Bougainville Youth in Agriculture, which trained 244 participants in sustainable gardening and business management, and Awest Pacific Leadership Training, which equipped 108 youth with accounting, carpentry, and leadership skills.
These programmes provide education and open doors to real-world opportunities, fostering resilience and sustainable development.
