Our recent work with partner institutions across Kenya has resulted in the following outcomes:
- Six post-secondary institutions in Kenya implemented COL’s TEL model to develop blended learning opportunities for learners.
- Over 3,200 learners from Kenya have enrolled in more than 16,000 courses with nearly 3,300 certificates issued under the Skills Online programme.
- 12 post-secondary institutions in Kenya developed 14 institutional policies and strategies on ODL, TEL, OER, Employability, and ODL in TVET.
These milestones highlight Kenya’s commitment to resilience and innovation in education and community development.

As AI continues to transform how knowledge is created and shared, COL is working closely with its partners to ensure the open education movement keeps pace with emerging innovations.
A key consideration in integrating AI into open education involves retaining local knowledge systems, language, and culture.
At a recent two-day regional workshop on Open Educational Resources (OER) in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, co-hosted by COL, the National Open University of Nigeria - NOUN, and COL’s Regional Training and Research Institute for Distance and Open Learning (RETRIDOL), education experts underscored the importance of preserving local heritage while expanding access to quality learning.
