CEMCA on AI at the Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education.

Recently, at the 6th Asia-Pacific Meeting on Education 2030 (APMED 6) in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr B Shadrach, Director of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) @COL4D’s regional centre, the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) @CEMCA_COL participated in a discussion on AI where he highlighted CEMCA’s efforts in advancing AI literacy. These initiatives are:

     • AI Literacy for Informal Sector Workers – conducted in collaboration with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI)
     • AI Literacy Among Teachers – in partnership with MIT-RAISE
     • COL’s Teachers in the Loop AI project – piloted among in-service teachers.

These initiatives aim to build AI capacity in education and foster responsible use of AI technologies. The APMED 6 meeting, organised by UNESCO’s Regional Office in Bangkok @unescobangkok, reviewed progress since the 2022 Bangkok Statement and discussed innovative approaches for making education more relevant, inclusive, and sustainable. The focus on AI literacy aligns with CEMCAs strategic goals to promote equitable and lifelong learning opportunities across the region.

Digitalisation and Future Learning in the Pacific Region: A Webinar.

Join us for the #COL4D Digitalisation and Future Learning webinar on 25 September 2024 from 1700 to 1830 hrs Pacific Standard Time (PST North America) and 26 September 2024 at 1100 hrs in Suva, Fiji.

Digitalisation and its use for education continues to be a major need and a huge challenge for many Commonwealth countries. There is a serious interest among policymakers on the topic. It was also discussed in the last meeting of the Commonwealth Education Ministers (London, May 2024). Digitalisation is also a support to build resilience which is the theme of CHOGM 2024.

The challenges range from changing mindsets and building capacities to the development of infrastructure. 

Following on from the webinar held on 18 September 2024 with Ministers and Ministry Officials from the Indian Ocean and Caribbean regions, a similar discussion is planned with representatives from Ministries in the Pacific on 25 September 2024.

Over the course of the 90-minute webinar, each session will take the form of a panel discussion followed by a more open discussion.
