Happy 60th Independe

Happy 60th Independence Day, Guyana!

As part of COL’s Virtual University for Small States of the Commonwealth (VUSSC) network, Guyana is making strong advancements in Higher Education, Open Schooling, Gender Equality, and Technology-Enabled Learning.

With representation on regional bodies, such as the Caribbean Association of National Training Authorities, as well as at COL’s Focal Points Meeting in the Caribbean earlier this year, Guyana continues to work closely with other Small States across the region to advance more inclusive and accessible education systems. Key regional priorities have included the development of a Micro-credential Framework, strengthening skills development and employability, enhancing quality assurance, integrating AI into teaching and learning, and building climate-resilient education systems.

In recent years, COL has worked with Guyana to release quality assurance standards for ODL with templates to support implementation; assisted the Adult Education Association of Guyana in creating an institutional ODL policy; and collaborated with civil society to provide skills training to disengaged men and young boys from marginalised communities. More than 150 students have enrolled in COL’s Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration and Master of Public Administration programmes at the University of Guyana, with 89 graduates to date.

As Guyana continues to strengthen its education sector, new partnerships and collaborative initiatives will help create even greater opportunities for learners and educators in the years ahead.
